Dec.1,2008I was watching Johnny Quest yesterday when I got a call from Inchara, a fellow astronomy geek! With a heavy heart, I paused the episode i was watching answered him on phone. He asked me to go out and look to the east. I asked what was in the east? He again repeated go out and look to the east (kind of like the lord of the rings – the two towers – battle at Helm’s Deep where Gandalf says “Look to the east” 
). He then said look at Venus and Jupiter, very close by to each other. I was puzzled. Venus? and Jupiter? in East?! I corrected him saying that they will appear in the West. He had by then, sent to all his friends to look at the eastern sky! Oh well…I went to the terrace and was like WOW…counting the moon out(for obvious reason), those two were the brightest bodies in the night sky and were sooooo close to each other! Sat on the terrace for some time and looked at them. Tried taking a few snaps(didnt come out that well).
After coming back into the house, I informed many people about the scenic beauty! But I do not understand just one thing! JUST ONE!
Sun rises in the east and sets in the west and moon too, follows suit. But yesterday, the moon was seen in the west at around 18:00 hours…how is this possible?! 
…please do clarify this doubt( Inc…i think you will do it

…I am not that good in editing photos…just opened one decent snap in MsPaint and drew few circles, added the Text! Kinda kiddish!

i saw those like day before yesterday…. There were two bright stars and they were the only ones……… i guess those two must have been them……..

yesterday was when they were the closest!
Moon too rises in the east and sets at the west… The moon at present is at waxing stage… waxing moon is fresh from the new moon stage and hence it will be moving away from the sun.. So at the beginning stage it will be seen at the west after sunset.. As the days go by the moon will be seen further eastward (ie away from the sun). At full moon, the moon will be exactly opposite sun, ie at sunset, the moon rises in the east.
At waning Moon stage, the moon will be visible later in the night and also visible at daytime. When the moon is nearing the new moon, u can see it only in the morn.
hey.. ve a look today.. The three brightest objects of the night sky forming a triangle… All three (Moon, venus, jupiter) will be very close to each other..
err…wasnt yesterday supposed to be the closest?! (the planets i mean not all three of them!) and thanks Inc..

maybe you can spot them today…but i am not so sure!
When I went and saw, venus and jupiter were little dull owing to the clouds… but still I could see the face with the smile…
yup..same case with me…the eyes were dull! but i did see them bright, once or twice…for a few seconds…
and
…none of the pics i took are good when viewed in the monitor but looks unshaken and clear in cellphone…so, i wont be adding pics here!

You know felt like it was a day that the skies was smiling on us insolent humans going about life…..
I aw this in Mysore but was unable to take a shot of it due to the poor quality of the cam in my mob
